Big Award, Happy 2016 & Los Angeles!

Been a minute, or seven, since my last update.

I wanted to share a few things with you from the world of The Orbit Magazine Anthology as we start 2016 together.

Big Award!

The Award Seal Soon to Grace the Book Cover
It was announced today that the book is being honored as a Michigan Notable Book from 2016 from the Library of Michigan.

The program, since 1991, has spotlighted up to 20 books each year from Michigan authors or about Michigan. If you look at the list of great writers/books, from this year and the past, it's an honor for me as a first time author.

The Library of Michigan, which runs the archives of the State, is honoring the writers with a special event in April. From there, the Library will be working with local libraries around the state to bring in the authors of the books to talk about their work, their process, and other aspects of writing, during April, May, and June of this year. I hope to see more of this great state of ours, including the U.P. which I have not really visited since I was 6 years old, as part of the tour. You'll see dates for the events on this page as well as the book's Facebook page. So, please keep in touch.

Happy 2016!

Jack White & Your Humble Author (11-2015)
Just wanted to say "thank you" to everyone who has been supporting the book since its release in September. It's been an amazing ride, better than I could have ever imagined. Book signings, chatting with people, fans, the famous, and the everyday person who also loves Orby like I do/did. It's heartwarming to meet people who remember the great laughs, stories, the feeling they got each month getting that new issue of Orbit and enjoying it - cover to cover. There really was nothing like it.

I want to thank everyone who helped to make the book party such an amazing success at Third Man Records - Cass Corridor on December 12th. Jack and his team over there - Katie, Roe, Dave, and the counter help - made sure everything went smooth. It was a great time that featured many hugs, laughs, tuneful karaoke (thanks to the great local producer Mike E. Clark), and great fun. If you haven't been to the new store on Willis, just down from where The White Stripes made their name at the Gold Dollar, you are missing out. It's a beautiful space, and much more is on the horizon. I can't wait to see what Jack and his team bring to Detroit once this record presses arrive this summer.

Los Angeles!

Hey Quentin, I have a new Orbit T for you - come on down!
For several months I have been working on setting up a book signing in the City of Angels. Not only because it's a fabulous town, but there are a lot of people in the book, or connected to it, that live out there.

The event is taking place on Saturday February 27th from 4pm-6pm at Book Soup - one of the best indie book stores in L.A.

Share the flyer, let people know. If you are in L.A., or nearby, I'd love to see you.

L.A. Signing Flyer
Beyond catching up with good friends, and talking a little business, I hope to make it over to the UCLA Punk Rock Archives. We have been chatting over the past several months about the connection between the Orbit universe and the L.A. punk scene (if you have read the first part of the book, you know what I'm talking about). We'll see what comes of that as time moves on.

  1. I happened to be lucky that my friend couldn't find a date for an event so he generously took me with him, which happened to be one of the best experience for me in recent times. I was lucky enough to see these venues in Houston. If you get a chance to check this out please do so.

  2. You have created the nice combination of Big Award, Happy 2016 & Los Angeles as your blog title. It is looking quite interesting and attractive also.
